AMI: A Men's Issue is a student organization that promotes a safe, caring community that will not tolerate sexual and other forms of interpersonal violence. At weekly meetings, the members of AMI explore masculinity and what it means to be a male in a society where sexual and other forms of interpersonal violence are prevalent. AMI is actively involved in violence prevention work at Syracuse University and SUNY ESF, as well as in the community.
The philosophy of AMI is that sexual and relationship violence are systemic issues that need to be acknowledged and addressed as men's issues.
The vision of AMI is to move toward a society that embraces gender equity and is free from sexual and relationship violence.
The mission of AMI is to provide leadership among men who wish to live in a respectful environment free from sexual and relationship violence. AMI will provide opportunities for discussion about masculinity and what it means to be a male in a society where sexual violence is prevalent, a safe place for self-reflection and dialogue about learned behaviors and belief systems that perpetuate violence, and a forum for exploring options and developing skills to make healthy, intentional choices.
